Details of the submission soliciting:

I. The submissions include art works of slogans, emblem, mascots, theme songs, flowers.

II. The invitation is open to any teams and individuals from across the world. (works by cooperative individuals are classified as team works)

III. requirements:

1. All submissions must focus on the theme of “Garden City and Eco-friendly Human Habitat”, feature the horticulture and modern styles of our times and possess the quality to be informative, artistic, attractive and image enhancing;

2. All submissions must represent high artistic levels, global perspectives and distinctive Chinese cultural elements while integrating local styles of Chengdu; they must be idiosyncratically creative, empathetic, attractive, distinctive and propagation-prone;

3. All submissions, including slogans, emblems, mascots and songs, must have impressive artistic expressions and highlight the themes on environmental and ecological friendliness. They must appeal to peoples of all ages, genders and different cultural backgrounds.

4. All candidates must abide by all the relevant laws, legal regulations and policies in but not necessarily limited to China, as well as the relevant policies by the organizing committee of the Expo;

5. All the expenses incurred to the submission must be undertaken by the candidates; the organizing committee shall not bear any cost involved in the process;

6. All the submissions must be original works by the candidates rather than published works in any forms; they must be easy to reproduce and transmit for market development and promotion;

7. Consent must be reached and confirmed by all the candidates that the organizing committee of the Expo are entitled to use, free of charge, any submissions in the forms of slogans, emblems, mascots, songs and flowers, for the purposes of organizing and evaluating. The selected submissions are liable for possible revisions proposed by the organizing committee of the Expo.

IV. Categories

1. Slogans

A. Requirements:

a. Impressive, terse and easy to be publicized;

b. Represent local cultural elements of Chengdu and the theme of the event; easy to understand in versions of Chinese, English, Japanese and Korean languages;

c. In principle, a single candidate (an individual or a team) can put forward NOT more than 3 submissions (each with no more than 16 Chinese characters in the Chinese version); in the case of submissions with the same or highly similar content or/and forms, priority shall be given to the first submission, according to the time of submitting as indicated on the official website.

B. Submitting (electronic version)

a. Must be written in standard fonts of Chinese characters;   

b. Purposes, explanations and others about the submissions (not more than 300 words).

2. Emblems

A. Requirements

a. Must represent the expressions about Chengdu, 2024, horticulture and etc;

b. Must be in the color version with impressive compositions, designs, colors to express modern aesthetic tastes and strong visual artistic impacts, while highlighting the theme of horticulture in a symbolic form.

B. Submitting

a. Electronic version: color picture (the size of A4 print paper, definition not less than 300 dpi, jpg format, standard color tone and fonts); vector graph source files must be provided;

b. Notes about the design elements, purposes, forms, compositions must be within 300 words;

c. Applications of the designs, i.e. the applications of the graphic designs and 3-dimensional designs;

3. Mascots

A. Requirements

a. The submission must be an expression of delightful atmosphere, with concise designs, bright colors and cute images, as well as local cultural features;

b. The submission must represent creativity and be applicable to market applications and development as to be used as licensed products, products for visual presentations and landscape designs, etc.;

c. One piece/set; the naming must be related to the Expo in one way or another.

B. Submitting

a. Electronic version: obverse image of the designs, color picture (the size of A4 print paper, definition not less than 300 dpi, jpg format, standard color tone and fonts), 3-dimensional and 3-projected versions; vector graph source files of the selected works are required;

b. Notes on works within 500 works, on the design elements, concepts, forms and so on. Name of the mascot must be provided;

c. Applications for the designs, i.e. the applications for graphic and 3-dimensional designs;

4. Theme songs of the Event

A. Requirements

The Submissions, which are original works that are NOT publicized in any forms, must be provided in complete versions including melodies and lyrics;

The submissions must highlight the theme and features of the Expo and local cultural elements and life styles of Chengdu, with beautiful and fluent melodies for learning and propagating, to help promote the image of Chengdu in the world.

The submissions must have strong expressive and infectious qualities, accentuated by the spirits of the times, to highlight the efforts of Chengdu in making the city into a Garden City.

The submission must integrate elements of fashionable cultures to be impressive and popular.

B. Submitting

An electronic file of the complete songs (audio file and lyrics included);

Complete version of the melodies and lyrics (PDF format);

Notes about the author(s) and work(s) (PDF format).

5. Flower of the Event

Several (3-5) floral species, for example the cotton hibiscus, crab apple and peony,  are named as candidates of the flower of the event. A voting shall be conducted on the official website of the Expo to decide on the flower of the event based on vote counts as well as opinions of experts.

V. Explanations on related issues of submitting

1. Constituents of submissions

Each of the all submissions must include the two complete and inseparable parts: the identification documents of the applicant(s), including documents and certified papers provided by the applicant(s) (referred to as certified ID documents and legal documents); the documents on the design plans.

The applicant(s) must submit designs in time according to the requirements of the invitation. Any submissions that fail to meet the requirements (including those with false or/and incomplete information) shall be considered as invalid submissions and be liable to be refused or revoked by the organizing committee of the Expo, which has the right but not the obligation to ask the applicant(s) to provide supplemented documents to conclude the submitting.

Submissions must be in the Chinese or English languages, and those in languages other than Chinese or English must have the Chinese version with good and accurate translation.

The documents provided by the applicant(s) must include:

a. Commitment letters;

b. Commission of authority;

c. c. Forms for the applicant(s);

d. Identification documents of the applicant(s)

The applicant(s) must provide legally valid documents that give complete and accurate information on his/her identification, such as the copies of ID card, family registration document (Hukou), passports or other officially issued documents with the equivalent legal validity;

The legal representative of the applicant(s) must provide copies of his/her valid ID cards;

The juridical person or applicant(s) of an institution are required to provide the related business licence, the registration code of the institution, as well as the copies of valid ID cards of the juridical person and the authorized person.

Any other documents as required by the organizing committee of the Expo.

2. Solicited submissions

The submissions include those of slogans, songs, emblems, mascots and flowers of the Expo; written notes are required for submissions on the emblems and mascots.

The notes must provide necessary explanations on the themes, concepts, working process and so on about the styles, uniqueness, qualities etc. of the submissions.

The applications of the submissions refer to the applications to the graphic designs and 3-dimensional designs, which must include at least the large-sized and small-sized application designs (such as large flags, posters, emblems, derivative toys).

The revision and revoke of submissions

a. The applicant(s) have the right to revise or revoke the submitted designs prior to the deadline of the invitation, but he/she must inform the organizing committee of the Expo in a written form. The written notifications must indicate the time and way for the submissions and be signed by the applicant(s).The revised submission must meet the requirements of the invitation and then be put forward.

b. The notifications for revision of revoke, as well as the revised versions, must be put forward to the official registration system before the deadline, or shall be considered invalid otherwise.

3. Submissions belonging to any of the following cases are considered invalid:

A. in short of any of the designs, notes and applications;

B. Mascots, emblems that Contain any information about the applicant(s);

C. Containing contents that may possibly be mistaken as designs for other events or organizations;

D. Containing designs for prior Expo events or original works by other people;

E. Containing contents that may pose infringes on IPR, technologies and business undertakings;

F. Containing the same of similar designs of any publicized works;

G. Containing political or/and religious contents, or business secrecy;

H. Containing contents against the Chinese laws, the concepts of the International Horticultural Exposition and public morals, or any hazard contents.

VI. Schedules

On June 24, the organizing committee of the Expo officially launched the invitation to solicit proposals of slogans, emblems, mascots, flowers and songs for the Expo. Documents concerning the invitation can be downloaded through the official website of the Expo, and the WeChat accounts of the official website of the Expo, Chengdu Daily, Jinguan News and its Client. The registry system on the official website of the Expo shall open to submissions in mid July till 00:00 of September 7.

VII. One Top award and 5 Excellent awards etc., together with the corresponding prize-money, shall be given to winners of each of the categories, i.e. slogans, emblems, mascots and songs. The winner(s) of the Top award(s) shall be privileged to attend the opening ceremony of the Expo.

2. The organizing committee has no legal obligations involving the distribution of prize-money after it is paid to the team winners;1. All the amounts of prize-money is the pre-tax amount(s) paid in RMB yuan;

3. Vacancy(ies) may be left in case no qualified submissions

Notes: prize-money winners are not entitled to win Top awards and Excellent awards at the same time; they have the obligations to pay taxes according to the Chinese laws and bear any possible costs incurred in the process.

VIII. Ownership of the Submitted Works

1. The organizing committee of the Expo have the IPR, ownership of and the permanent right to use all the submitted works, which shall not returned to the applicants, who have no right to publicize or authorize the use of any of the submitted works;

2. The organizing committee of the Expo are entitled to use, preserve, develop derivatives of and authorize the use of the submissions; the applicants have no right to share any possible rights and interests from any dealings involved;

3. Applicants must ensure that the submission(s) be original work(s), do not cause any infringement on IPR or business secrets.

4. The organizing committee of the Expo has the final right to interpret the invitation.
